Lady of the Earth

lady of the earth blur bg

The last of my Elemental Goddesses series. The rest in the series are:

Lady of the Water

and

Lady of the Flame

and

Lady of Metal

and

Lady of the Wind

So, this is a wallpaper of an Earth Elemental Goddess.

I’m trying to capture the “mood” of each elemental where water is sombre and serious while fire is wild and happy. Metal was supposed to be a strong, powerful character and Air a free spirited fairy

With Earth, I was trying to channel a life giving entity (hence the “World Tree”). Also, I thought the Earth was different from the other elementals, so I gave it a rainbow-colored background rather than a single toned one. The figure was more than a little inspired by The Birth of Venus by Botticelli

Lady of the Wind

Lady of the Wind

Lady of the Wind

Ok, this is a continuation of the series of nude figures I am doing. Previous pieces in this series are…

Lady of the Water

and

Lady of the Flame

and

Lady of Metal

This new one is of a Wind (or Air) Elemental Goddess.

I’m trying to capture the “mood” of each elemental where Water is sombre and serious while Fire is wild and free. Metal was supposed to be a strong, powerful character.

With Air, I was going for a free spirited fairy kinda look.
Technique wise, I had a bit of problem thinking of a way to render something non physical like “air”, so I used leaves to try to create a “moving” effect… not sure if I succeeded

Lady of Metal

Iron Maiden

Still experimenting with elemental effects for now. This is one of first pieces I am trying out with an original character. It’s also the third nude figure I am doing after

Lady of the Water

and

Lady of the Flame

After the first two pieces, I decided I should do an elemental goddesses series.

So, this is a wallpaper of a Metal Elemental Goddess.

I’m trying to capture the “mood” of each elemental where water is sombre and serious while fire is wild and free. This third piece, metal, I am looking for a strong, powerful character and hence the “punching through a brick wall” effect

Technique wise, I am trying to create a Silver Surfer like effect for her skin, but I am currently lacking the necessary skills. Will prob revisit this one day

Lady of the Flames

The Goddess of Fire

I know it’s been a long time, but we’re taking a break from travelling, so I’m giving this a try again…

Anyway, I’m experimenting with elemental effects for now. This is one of first pieces I am trying out with an original character. It’s also the second nude figure I am doing after Lady of the Water

I should probably do an elemental goddesses series.

Wings of Rain

Nightwing in the Rain

Nightwing

Took a long break because I just quit my job and am now travelling the world with my wife! (True Story)

I had a lot of fun with the rain effect. It’s the second time I am attempting this after a try on Daredevil:

Devil Rain

Used a lot of brushes/layers and spent A LOT of time on them, but it was a great learning experience.

This is still one of my first works.. Still trying to find my “style”

C&C most welcome

Thanks for viewing

Jean Grey – Super Model

3rd piece in my Jean Grey series.

This would be the Grant Morrison’s New X Men version of Jean. The period where they all decided that spandex was not practical for the X Men. I personally think it is a funky/modern take on their costume. This was especially for Jean, whom I think would look like a hipster Super Model in the outfit.

With this piece, I am attempting to create a piece that looks like a magazine spread. There are 3 elements in here that I am experimenting with but was never very comfortable with:

1) Fashion piece (because very simply… I am a guy…)
2) Typography… hope it looks a magazine article’s
3) Black and White renders (I always like colors more… so in the end I succumbed and added a dash of colors still…

Jean Grey with Love

2nd piece in my Jean Grey series. First piece can be seen here.

This one goes waaaay back when she was “Marvel Girl”.

I wanted to recreate a retro pinup piece. Sort of like one of those photos wives/girlfriends used to give the soldiers just before they go off into war.

Probably a piece I might revisit in the future when I get a bit better. There is a sense that something is still… “missing” although I cannot put my finger on it.

Any help in this area would be GREATLY appreciated.

Deadly Cherry Blossoms

I wanted a more “basic” look for this piece with Psylocke. I like her Asian mythos, so I went more oriental for this piece as well.

The kenji in the background means “Samurai”. I know she is not one, but the word “ninja” just does not seem to fit well into this image. Call it my little bit of… creative liberty.

Flight of the Supergirl

Supergirl, dc comics, dc, kara zor el

This piece was very much inspired by Alex Ross’ piece of Clark Kent changing into Superman. Thought I’ll try it out with Kara Zor-el.

For this piece, I (again) experimented with adding a background to the piece. Think it gives the piece more “life”. It’s also the first time I am trying for a more photorealistic face for the subject. I was going for Keira Knightly… Not sure if I succeeded.

Justice Jam

Justice Jam, Justice League, Superman, Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman[link]

This was the one that started it all… I just thought that Superman’s new design, with the jeans looked pretty… “grunge”… like he should belong in a rock band. So I did this piece and I kinda got carried away and did a band jam piece for the whole Justice League…

Justice League, Superman, Batman, Flash, Wonder WomanI am a big sucker for combination panorama comic covers, so I wanted this to be the concept for this series.

Batman:

Justice League, Superman, Batman, Flash, Wonder WomanFlash and Wonder Woman

Justice Jam, Justice League, Superman, Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman

Problem Solving…

One of my first works featuring the lovely Black Widow..

I’m trying to recreate the feel of one of Lichthenstein’s piece merged with an old communist constructivsm style poster. Added a Lenin quote at the end (no… I did not come up with that myself…) because I thought it was appropriate.

I think that on some level it worked, because it’s the first piece I did that got some recognition… Third place in a community vote on deviant art!

It’s a start… so, Joy!

Sweet Screams

black canary, dc, dc comics, comics, comic, comic book, comic books, scream, sonic wave, sonic, screams, pink

I’m trying for a more pastel-y tone in this piece featuring Black Canary…

Definitely not one of my more stellar work but in my defense, I did it in the name of experimentation and working out of my comfort zone… Somehow I’ve never been very comfortable working with pastels, so on the quest of finding my “style”, I decided to give it a try.

To be honest, I am slightly under-whelmed by the results, but I hope that on some level, it worked…

In the meantime, I’ll be staying off pink for a while…
